Let’s be honest – there’s never a bad time to enjoy a tasty margarita. But if you’re looking for an extra reason to indulge, February 22 is National Margarita Day!
We promise you it’s a real thing. There’s even an official website. We aren’t just making up an excuse to drink... Even though we've probably been guilty of it before. And how fitting that this boozy holiday happens to fall on a Tuesday this year. Because what pairs better with margaritas than tacos? NOTHING.
Everything seems to have aligned perfectly for 2-22-22. See what we did there? As if you didn’t need another reason, a palindrome is definitely cause for a margarita.
Get your stack of Craft or Session Pint cups ready because to celebrate National Margarita Day, we’ve rounded up five recipes that offer a twist on this classic drink.
Broiled Grapefruit Margarita
We might be getting a little ahead of ourselves – this tangy, but sweet margarita is more suited for summertime – but can you blame us? We’re based in Oregon. Via the Cookie Rookie is this broiled grapefruit marg recipe!
What you’ll need:
- 3 ounces tequila
- 3 ruby red grapefruits
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup white sugar
- 4 tablespoons lime juice
- 1 tablespoon agave nectar
- Sea salt and rosemary (rim garnish)
How to make this drink:
- Preheat your oven broiler.
- Slice 2 of the grapefruits in half. Slice the remaining one into ½ slices and then again in half to create wedges. Put all the grapefruit on a cookie sheet.
- Combine brown sugar and white sugar. Top grapefruit halves and wedges liberally with sugar mixture.
- Place cookie sheet under broiler for 8 to 10 minutes or until grapefruit is toasted or caramelized.
- Remove from the oven. Set aside wedges to be used for garnish. Squeeze grapefruit halves into a cocktail shaker. The juice should equal about 1 cup.
- Mix in lime juice, agave nectar, and tequila. Add some ice and shake until completely mixed.
- On a small plate, mix together 2 parts salt to 1 part rosemary. Wet glasses and dip in salt mix.
- Pour mix over ice and garnish with the broiled grapefruit wedges. Enjoy!
